A Night Time Prayer

Smile
God will smile with you
Cry
He will sing with you
Now my little one
Close your eyes and sleep
For tomorrow is another day
To play

The Nature of a Four Letter Word

I know a four letter word
It’s not much of a word
But
Every time I think of it
I think of you

Every time
It comes to mind
You come to mind
Compared to some
Its quiet simple and unique

It’s always on my mind
Never far from my lips
It puts a smile on my face
And
When I think of it
It puts a thought into my head
That
Could have only come from you

Birthdays Are the Road to Heaven

Birthday are never forgotten
But are always remembered
By the young and miss placed
By the old

For birthdays
You see
Become the stone
Crashing through glass
And
The pebble bouncing off
The Iron Gate leading to heaven

So
Never fear

Birthdays are God given
To keep you awake
As he takes you
Down the road of life
To his paradise

Smile

A reflection of things to come
Poetry highlights the shadowy
Outlines of life

Read a poem
And
Light up the night
Once filled with shadows
Now
Known to you

Be careful
Be prepared
To smile and to cry
Once again

Because poetry
Is really
A part of life
Just like you

Beer

I have a need
A need to drink beer
I have a need
To live at top
Living life to the fullness
Is what I want to do

Beer allows me to do so
Beer is my life line
Call me a watering can
And
The beer I drink water

Lord what am I saying
Lord what am I doing
The beer I am drinking
Is blinding me
I can not stop drinking
I need help

Can anyone help me
I don’t want to die
And I do want to see again

The key

Believe in magic
It’s real
Believe the impossible
It will become possible
Believe in your dreams
They will come true
Believe in yourself
You will grow
Believe you can do it
And you will

Believe you have the power
To change what is written
And what will be written
About you
Believe you are the key
That can unlock the door
From the impossible to the possible

The Curse Of Time

Did you know
That the curse of getting older
Is that you forget
Everything you want to remember
And
You remember everything
You want to forget

The curse of being younger
Is that you can’t wait
To get older

But the older you get
The younger you wish you were

No Name Road

There are mountains
There are valleys

The road to each
Is not always
Straight and narrow

Life

Things are much simpler
Than what they seem

It’s like stepping on stones
In a creek to get to the other side

Your feet will get wet
But still get across

Kitty Toy

Come with me
Take my hand
Feel my strength in my blood

Come with me
Feel my weakness
On my brow

Come with me
Wipe my sweat from my toes
As I wiggle them
Giving Giggles
The kitten a toy to bat around
In the living room

Let The Monkey Dance

Spank the monkey
Make him cry
Spank the monkey
Make him laugh

Hang him high by his toes
And
Watch him dance

Pet the monkey
Make him smile
Pat him on the head
And
Watch him follow you

To bed he will go
Keeping you warm
On cool nights

Kiss him on the cheek
And
A friend you will have for life
Standing by your side
Waiting to protect you
From the evil spirit
Hiding in a pile of socks
In the corner of your closet
Behind the invisible door
In your room
So beware
Let the monkey dance
As he snares the villain
While the sun sleeps

The Desert Wind

The wind blows
Over a desolate land
Like a kiss
Waiting
For a breathe of fresh air to arrive
To quench its thirst
That never ends
And
Never stops

Leftovers

Close one eye
Open the other
What do you see

That’s right
A piece of left over
Spider lint

The Eight Legged Angel

There is spider
Making its home
On my car

It’s living behind the side mirror
Where no one can reach

I know she’s there
I can see the milky outline of her web
Scratching
Shadows of passing cars
On my mirror

Sometimes I wake up
In the middle of the night
Dreaming of this spider
Living behind my mirror

That’s when I start to think
This spider is my angel

The Relaxing Butterfly

Music and poetry
Move the soul
But unlike poetry
Music causes the feet to move

The marriage of the two
Create a rhythmic dance
Merging together
A chorus of sight and sound
Forever to be heard on a sunny day
By a butterfly sitting on a rose petal
Swaying in the breeze

Monkey Dreaming

I woke up this morning
And next to me
I saw a monkey
Crying on my pillow
It was then
When I realized
That
I was looking at my reflection
Through my tears

Spiders Don’t Scare Me

I was sitting down one day
When a spider came trickling
Down from the ceiling
And sat next to me

Its eyes were a deep red
And
Letting curiosity get the better of me
I asked the spider
What the problem was
He replied
I have allergies

Being a meek well mannered man
I was starting to show some concern
For this red eyed creature
Suddenly
I was staring down the barrel of an assault rifle
My meekness
By this time had faded

The spider began to speak again
I heard no sound but instead
I saw a tear running down his face
I spoke to this monster and I said
Sit down or be squished

Now
I have no fear
The creature is gone and the sneezing is no more

A Co-worker becomes a friend

It has been said
To continue with life
One must swallow
Then
Start drinking again
Till
It does not hurt anymore
Well
It does hurt to see you go
You have become someone special
Someone to remember
You are the glue
That
Held us and this job
Together
Tomorrow
When your name is whispered
A tear will run down our cheeks
In memory of our friendship

To My Sister

My dearest sister
We may be apart
But
I am always thinking of you

Are you eating well
Are you sleeping soundly

You may not believe me
But
At our last visit
I seemed a little on edge
Well I was

It’s not because
I needed your approval
I needed your strength
With out you in my life
I would not be the same person

You are a part of me
I am a part of you

Together
We make up the individuals
That we have became
And are becoming

My dearest sister
It sounds funny doesn’t it
I like thinking about you
And
 Laughing at you
I hope this letter finds you well

Strangers Become Friends

When I met you
We were strangers
The shyness
That was there
Shed its clothes
That
Cold uncertain smile
Found its way
To a giggle

Our laughter
Became whispers
Signaling
The beginning
Without end
To our friendship
And to the vast blue skies
On a sunny day

A Gem To Us All

              A precious stone
Is only as good
As the value
That is placed on it
By a smile
So
Remember this
Every time
You look at this plain rock
sitting here
In the palm of my hand
A stone is a precious gem
When
It is given as a gift
Even if
It is a plain everyday rock
Found in a river bed

Selling Point

A positive attitude
And a smile
Can turn a shopper
Into a customer

Lazy Summer

Summer is here
And
It’s hot
Allowing the couch
To be replaced by a lawn chair
And a can of beer

You want to borrow what!

A name
For a next door neighbor
Might be
A pain in the neck

Following instructions

Cooking
Keeps you looking
At the pages of the cook book
While
 Searching for a new recipe

The Banking Experience

A penny saved
Is not always
A penny saved
It sometimes depends
On the handling fee
Charged

A Drug

Beware
Reading can be
Habit forming

Aunt Dee

I walked into the room
I wasn’t expecting to see
What I saw

She was on her deathbed
She gave me a smile
As a clenched fist flew
Across the room towards me
It was her way of saying good bye

I smiled
It was my way of saying thank you
For allowing me to have a glimpse
Into your life

I know you are with St. Peter
Laughing
Smoking and drinking a can of Olympia Beer

Thank you Aunt Dee
You have made my life better
Because
I was there to see you smile

Loosing A Friend

Where has she gone
We can no longer talk
Where has she gone
We can no longer walk
Hand in hand

This morning I saw her
Laughing
This morning
I was not with her

Yesterday
We were walking together
And we were laughing

Today I am here
I am by myself
And she
Is over there

Tomorrow does not exist
Our friendship is like a raindrop
Bouncing off a tin roof
On a rainy day

3 am Wake up Call

O Lord
Let me sleep
But a minute
In your loving arms

Here I am
Awake at 3 am
My mind racing out of control

Please Lord
Let me sleep
But a minute
In your loving presence

Let me drink
From your cool waters
Washing my thoughts clean
They are my reason
For my spinning head

California Day Dreaming

I have felt lots of pain
In my day

I have given a lot of pain
On days gone by

But
This day
I am catching the train

The conductor’s voice
I hear
He is yelling
All aboard
This train is bound for New Jersey
I hear him say

I looked at my watch
Then
At the overhead bill board

I remembered
As I start to shake
The cobwebs
From my ears and hair

I am only going to Sacramento
And
This is my birthday

Respect

Did you know
That a smile
Is a sign of respect

And a frown
Means
I don’t care
If I live or die

But
If God had a frown
When he made us
We would not be here
Today

So smile
And enjoy
What God has made

Birthday Cake

Another year has gone by
And
Still another to come

The hours of the day
Have become
Days of the week

And still I am here
Waiting for the moment
When my cake
Walks in

I know the time is near
I can feel the heat
From the candles

I love the taste
The smile
The feel of my birthday cake

This day
The day of my birth
Is a wonderful day
To eat cake in my honor

A New Life Birthday

Have you ever noticed
That birthday’s
Are like leaves on a tree

When
They are ready
To fall to the ground
They do

Creating compost
And eventually new life

So
Happy birthday
On your very special day

No Longer Silent

Words written on paper
Are silent

To hear them echo
From the mountain tops
We must give them a voice

So
Let’s pick them up
Learning what they are saying
Making them our friends
And allowing them
To be
No longer silent

A Plum Jam Bed

The toast of the town
Is the slice
That is not
 Well done
And
All the others
Are used as a bed
For plum jam

The Beginner Dance

Come dance with me
Come smile with me

If I happen to stumble
And fall
Please pick my bones
Off the floor

Smile

Turn me up
Turn me down

First I smile
Then I frown

I would whether smile
Than frown
So turn me up
Instead of down

The Morning Mirror

Keep smiling
What you see
Is
A figment of your imagination

The nod of approval
Is actually
A look of confusion

So beware
The next time
You see it
And
You are still standing
In front of the bathroom mirror

Honey Suckle

Oh honey suckle
So pure
So fair
Why must you die
To live again
Some other day

To see you water me
With your tears
To see you smile
To give you pleasure
That is why
I must die

Came the reply
From the honey suckle
So pure
So fair
